Wrongful Death or Stroke of Mother During Child Birth
Women should never have a stroke, hemorrhage or die during child birth. With todays modern medicine these tragic events are all very preventable. However, new research established that strokes, hemorrhage and death during child birth continue to occur due to inattentiveness of the mother’s care team during birth. A recent article in USA Today based on a study of maternity hospitals and birthing centers in the United States, states the U.S. has the highest maternal death rate among the world’s developed nations and is the only country in which the maternal death rate is on the rise. The study found that many hospitals routinely fail to give women recommended treatments that could save lives.
In a study by the Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN), it was found that the leading cause of maternal death is failure to recognize blood loss during child birth. Women die from obstetric hemorrhage because effective interventions are not initiated early enough.
This should never happen and is considered a “Never, Never, Never Event” in the medical malpractice area which is an event that is a clear mistake and is serious and preventable.
